Commercial Trailer Net Orders Improved in September
COLUMBUS, IN – After recent lackluster performance, trailer order activity posted solid improvement in September. Net orders were up almost 31% month-over month and 22% year-over-year. Supported by solid production and inventory reduction, total trailer factory shipments were up nearly 65% in September. This update on industry performance was reported in the latest State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers published by ACT Research Co. October 21.

SEC staff rebels against watchdog’s supposed ‘reign of terror’
His blunt reports have won Inspector General H. David Kotz admiration on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers summon him to testify about his efforts to improve what they have criticized as flawed management and oversight at the regulator.
At the SEC, it’s a different story. While inspectors general are rarely beloved, a backlash against Kotz among staff and managers has grown in intensity and spread to the legal community outside the agency. Now critics led by former SEC Chairman Harvey Pitt say Kotz is undermining the market regulator’s effectiveness.
For those who may be unaware of what is going on at the SEC, there is a reign of terror in effect, Pitt, who has represented several people involved in Kotz’s investigations, wrote to securities lawyers last month in an e-mail obtained by Bloomberg News.
Kotz’s supporters say he’s a zealous investigator who arrived when the SEC’s lapses in the run-up to the credit crisis called for a tough in-house cop.

Soybean prices spiked higher closing 24 1/2 cents higher on Thursday. Euro debt relief agreements caused triggered rallies across all markets. The $USD traded sharply lower spending most of the day 140 to 150 points lower. Weekly export sales were very disappointing but the market didn’t care it was all about Europe and the deal put forth. Weekly export sales were expected to be 600,000 mt to 1.0 mmt but came in at a mere 227,600 mt for old crom and 27,000 new. YTD export sales commitments are down 33% from last year at 18.312 mmt. Volume on Thursday was heavy. Soybeans traded 289,972 Meal traded 58,326 and Oil traded 108,324. Funds were net buyers of an estimated 11,000, 5,000 Oil and 2,500 Meal. Opening Call: lower. The ‘Doing Business’ report is still doing harm
The World Bank has just published its annual “Doing Business” report. This flagship publication ranks countries on how easy it is for business to do everything from starting up to enforcing property rights.
It is high influential, but also highly controversial in pressuring governments to scrap any sort of regulation from employment protection to paying taxes. This year’s report has responded to some union criticisms but is still largely a roadmap for doing business as usual.
